Hi everyone,

I'm using Business Directory 6.1 with XMod 553.

I have read step 5 - XMod Additional Form Settings – Advanced Search (Optional Form) in BD6.1 Documentation for configuration and understand it will pass the URL parameters value to the Detail Form to show the result.  I also configured the "Filter by URL parameters" (in Xmod module menu > Configure XMod Module > Data Settings > Filtering > Filter Using URL Parameter) so the listing page will show the result with criteria.

In Configure XMod Module > Data Settings > User Searching - User Search Options, I can choose many search fields for searching. In the listing page, I have one Search box which can receive any keyword and it will search among the search fields I have set.

Is there a way to create a customize textbox in Search Form (like Advanced Search Form) like that? One text box for any keyword and it will search in many fields?

I hope to see any suggestions from you!

Thank you!

First off, I would suggest that you upgrade to XMod 5.5.4. There were additional fixes that were specific to DNN Professor applications.

The upgrade is available in the Snowcovered.com patches and hot fix section.

In regards to a separate search, it becomes a bit complicated due to the way XMod data is set up in SQL index tables.

A SQL search would need to combine unions and like operaters to traverse the index tables.

Tony Harrison, owner of Fat George, has created some custom search applications for Business Directory users.

You may want to contact him at http://fatgeorge.co.uk..

You can also reference the XMod forums at http://dnndev.com/Support/Forums.aspx and perform a forum search on custom search.

You can also contact Kelly Ford, developer of XMod, at http://dnndev.zendesk.com/ for advice on XMod searching.

I recently did some work for a client that involved a custom search form.

As you will have found one of the limitations of using URL parameters for filtering the XMod listings is that XMod performs an AND query so your listing record would have to meet all the filters, this is not a usable solution when you want to query multiple fields for the same search criteria.

I did create a solution for this client that would allow you to do this if you would like to discuss this further please contact me via admin AT fatgeorge.co.uk

we don't make XMod, we make it better!

Hi Fatgeorge,

Business Directory 6.1 has its wonderful listing and detail that I need so I just want to improve its search for more convenience (and by making my own seperate search page like Advanced Search Form). I sent a message which looking for a solution to you in Custom XMod Solutions last week. I hope to receive your response for this.

I am trying to create a custom search by XMod with BD form data but I don't know if there is a way to link it with listing form of BD so it can work. I want to continue to use functions providing by BD.

Thank you!
